Educational Philosophy

I believe that Kindergarten is the most special place of all. I have the wonderful opportunity to take kids at all levels and help them grow to their fullest potential during the year.  Each child comes to my room with varying degrees of educational experience, and I feel blessed to be able to watch them bloom during the course of the year.

I truly believe that it is important to take time to cherish their smiles, their insights, and their personalities.  Each child is uniquely himself, and they are little works in progress.  I act as a facilitator in my classroom, setting up the boundaries, but letting the children freely explore the world around them.  Meeting the state requirements and remembering that I am working with a young, developing child is the challenge that all Kindergarten educators are facing.  It can be done!  I believe this and work each day to keep child development in mind.  We may have to learn sight words, but we can just as easily do it with shaving cream and playdough as we can with just paper and pencil!  I also believe that social development is still just as important as the academics.  Learning how to be a kind and caring individual, a good basic person who can contribute to society in a positive way, is so desperately needed in today's world.

My main goal throughout the year is to teach the children that school is a joy.  If they can take that belief with them after they leave my classroom, then I have instilled in them a desire to be a life-long learner.  With this belief, all things are possible for them.  Their "I CAN" attitude will empower and enable them for years to come.
