Kindergarten Overview

By the end of the Kindergarten year, students should demonstrate the ability to:

1.  Recognize letters of the alphabet and letter/sound matches.        

2.  Show familiarity with rhyming and beginning sounds.

 3.  Understand left-to-right and top to bottom  orientation and familiar concepts of print. 

4. Write first and last name, most letters of the alphabet, and some high frequency words.

5.  Recognize some high-frequency words.

6.  Recognize and write numerals 1 to 20.

7.  Demonstrate one-to-one correspondence.

8.  Listen attentively to books teacher reads to class and retell simple narrative stories or informational text.
