Student Responsibilities

The students are responsible for many things.  They have LOTS to keep up with.  Here is a brief synopsis of what is expected of each child.

Backpacks:          

Each child needs to bring his/her backpack to school DAILY!  We have MANY things that need to go back and forth from home to school.  

    LEARNING PACKS:   

Our classroom has a set of Scholastic Take Home Backpacks that are available for you to check out on a first come first serve basis.  This will be on the honor system.  The system has been in circulation for several years, therefore many of the pieces of the activities are either missing or not in the best condition. 

The packs provide you with an opportunity to do some hands-on activities with your child.  In each of the packs, there is a book with manipulatives and directions on how to use them. 

When/if you are interested in checking one out, let Mrs. Lawson know. 

Friday folders:       

Each child brings home a Friday folder each week on Friday. When these come home, please take a few minutes to look through the work inside.  Each week news from me and news from the office is enclosed.  Return the folder empty on Monday!  If your child has lost his/her folder, please send a new one to school as soon as possible.

Emergent Readers:      

 Emergent Readers will be going home with the students at some time during the year.  When these readers come home, please take time to read the book with your child.  Then, have him/her read it to you.  Please make sure that you point to each word as you read it and make sure that they do the same.  When they are comfortable with the text, you may send it back to school.  When they reach a certain level in the readers there will be some homework to do with it.  An explanation of what is expected on the homework will be included in the baggy with the reader.
