Kindergarten Assessment
At the beginning of the year, all kindergarten students are screened with the Early Prevention of School Failure Test. This gives teachers the developmental levels of students, as well as strengths and weaknesses of the students. The teachers use this information to plan instruction for the children. Students who show that they have considerable needs in two or more areas receive extra help each day from trained paraprofessionals. At the end of the year, these students will be post tested to determine improvement in their weak areas.
Students are also given Observation Survey II at the beginning of the year. These tests show the teacher what the students know about literacy skills. Specifically, can they identify any letters, hear any letter sounds, know some concepts about print, write any words, or read any words? Teachers also use this information to plan for instruction. Students are post tested at the end of the year to determine gains in these areas. Campus performance objectives are based on acquisition of these skills.
Report cards go home every nine weeks. Testing for report cards is ongoing and reflects skills from the Early Prevention of School Failure tests and Observation Survey II.
